For Farmers & Landowners

Part of our mission is to help keep Rhode Island farmers in business
and preserve open space.

A primary goal for Green Development is to collaborate with farmers and landowners with undeveloped land across the state who are interested in having wind turbines or solar energy systems constructed on their property. The lease agreements entered into by Green Development provides these farmers with substantial annual income in exchange for use of small areas of their property. These agreements often allow farming families to keep their agricultural land operational or to keep large tracts of land in the family. Green Development believes that farmers are an incredibly important asset to the Rhode Island economy that cannot afford to be lost.

The State of Rhode Island has established aggressive goals that require utility providers to procure a portion of their energy from renewable energy sources through the Renewable Energy Standard (RES). In addition, Rhode Island’s Office of Energy Resources offers a remote Net-Metering policy that allows state and municipal entities to invest in renewable energy projects located away from their existing facilities and receive credit from the utility provider for the energy generated.

While not all sites are equally-suited to hosting renewable energy solutions, a member of the Green Development team will meet with you, inspect the property, and determine proximity to the utility interconnection point, the impact on any neighboring properties, and wetland or other environmental and topographical considerations.
