Civil Engineer

Location: North Kingstown, RI
Position: Full time with competitive pay and benefits

Green Development (the “Company”) is the leading developer of renewable energy in the state of Rhode Island. Green Development was created in 2009 with a focus on building healthy, sustainable and thriving communities in Rhode Island and across the northeast region. The company currently has 18 MW of wind turbines deployed in Portsmouth, North Kingstown and Coventry, and 8 MW of solar projects deployed in Richmond, with 29 additional MW of solar and wind under construction and a large pipeline of community projects across wind, solar and biomass statewide.

Civil Engineer – Overview:

The Civil Engineer position is located in North Kingstown, RI. This position reports to Kevin Morin, Director of Civil Engineering, and is part of the core Development Team that is established for the firm. This position anticipates the production of in-house engineering design with support from other team members on solar and wind energy projects as well as other potential projects with the construction division to assist the firm’s growth (site work, new offices, etc.) This position must also work hand in hand with the Operations Team and Development Team, as well as with outside engineering firms and state and local government entities to ensure site work and design and construction of renewable energy projects with full conformance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Responsibilities include a primary focus on schematic and final civil site design, plan preparation, and reports to support regulatory submissions to city, town, and state agencies. Additional responsibilities include assistance with preliminary feasibility studies for potential projects.

The position will require superior cross-functional skills including assisting the Development team in developing proposals and effectively putting together project estimates,and providing technical support to the Operations team. Travel is required including site visits to evaluate new opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • AutoCAD/Civil 3D Design
  • HydroCAD design for stormwater BMP’s
  • Preparation of feasibility studies
  • Final grading and drainage design, existing and proposed conditions plans, and specifications
  • Prepare technical reports include due diligence, project narratives, stormwater management reports, operation and maintenance plans
  • Cut and fill analyses
  • All necessary civil engineering work to support submissions to town councils, planning boards and zoning boards
  • Participate in town meetings as necessary, including providing expert testimony
  • Construction administration assistance as may be needed

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering (EIT Preferred)
  • Required: Proficiency in AutoCad/Civil 3D, HydroCAD and MS Office products
  • 1-3 years experience working on civil/site land development projects
  • Engineering, design & permitting experience for commercial/utility applications (RI experience preferred)
  • Experience with developing soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, stormwater modeling and design of best management practices, and stormwater management reports
  • Experience with preparation of existing conditions and proposed design drawings and plans
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, leadership and people skills a must
  • Self-directed, organized and self-motivated to accomplish goals
  • Ability and desire to learn and progress within your position
  • Able to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven challenging environment
  • Must be willing to relocate to daily commutable distance from North Kingstown, RI
  • Regional travel required

Project Engineer

Location: North Kingstown, RI

Project Engineer – Overview:

The Project Engineer position is located in North Kingstown, RI. This position will be working with our Development and Construction teams, outside engineering firms, and electric utilities to ensure design and construction of solar PV and wind energy systems, including grid interconnection, that optimize efficiency (cost and time) with full conformance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Responsibilities include solar and wind energy system design and layout, project cost estimating, performing energy production analysis, project-managing the project through the electric utilities’ interconnection processes, evaluating future technologies (including energy storage), and developing internal intellectual property products and offerings.

The position will require superior cross-functional skills including assisting the Development team in developing proposals and effectively putting together project estimates, and providing technical support to the Operations team. Some travel will be required including site visits to evaluate new opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical engineering work for all Company solar and wind projects, including one-line and three-line electrical design schematic drawings.
  • Coordinate all work with Development and Operations team to ensure all Engineering activities support project plans and schedules
    Provide, directly or via outside firm(s), preliminary layouts, drawings and specifications in support of the site development proposal processes.
  • Deliver timely, high-quality engineering drawings and analysis, whether internally or externally generated, to ensure projects are optimized in terms of cost, quality, schedule and performance
  • Select outside engineering firms that best support the Company’s objectives, schedules and standards. Maintain “partner” relationships with key engineering firms
  • Work closely with any electrical subcontractors on design or construction electrical issues that arise
  • Project-manage the grid interconnection process in coordination with the construction project manager to ensure timely completion of all utility work to accommodate our projects
  • Forge strong, collaborative relationship with critical contacts at National Grid and other utilities with whom our projects interconnect
  • Provide technical support to the Asset Management function

Qualifications:

  • Degree in electrical engineering; mechanical engineer with significant electrical experience will be considered
  • 3-5 years’ PV solar or wind (megawatt-scale, grid-connected) engineering experience
  • Engineering, design & permitting experience for commercial/utility applications
  • Expertise in panels, inverters and monitoring systems for utility scale PV systems and/or in large (1.5 to 3 MW) wind turbines.
  • Expertise, or at minimum solid understanding, of AC and DC electrical components, electrical distribution systems, substations, and power-system protection devices.
  • Analytical and estimating skills
  • Strong understanding of National Electrical Code, IEEE Standards, and the International Building Code.
  • Experience with energy modeling including PVsyst, Helioscope, and windPRO
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, leadership and people skills a must
  • Energetic, self-directed, organized and self-motivated to accomplish goals
  • Ability and desire to continuously learn within your position and a rapidly evolving industry
  • Able to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven challenging environment
  • Required: Proficiency in AutoCad and MS Office products
  • Must be willing to relocate to daily commutable distance from North Kingstown, RI
