Local farms contribute to Rhode Island’s economy and its unique culture. We’re committed to helping local farmers survive, thrive, and innovate.

We collaborate with farmers and other landowners to find the best use for undeveloped land, ensuring a more secure future for them and a continuation of the local food supply for all Rhode Islanders. When farmers face difficult economic times as a result of unfavorable market or weather conditions, they often believe that their only viable option is to sell a portion of agricultural land for housing developments.  Green Development is pleased to offer them another alternative. When farmers and other landowners lease a portion of their land to us for renewable energy projects, they receive an annual income, while keeping the land and farming in their families.

Here in Rhode Island, Green Development has been building renewable energy projects and helping preserve family farms for the past several years.  Hear from Cindy Duncan, Co-Owner of Harvest Acres Farms about what it has meant for her to be able to run a non-profit organization and preserve her family’s farm, Gina Thurn, Co-Owner of Our Kids’ Farm about how her solar project has enabled her to both stay in business and innovate in the area of dual-use farming, and Justin Stamp, part of a family that has been farming in RI for over 100 years, about how the income from a proposed solar project would enable his family to continue farming.
