Cranston, RI – Each year Solar Power World recognizes and ranks the efforts of solar contractors across the United States. In its recently released 2022 Top Solar Contractors list, Green Development achieved a rank of 40 out of 411 companies in the United States (top 10%).
The list is developed by Solar Power World to recognize the work completed by solar contractors across the United States. The list celebrates the achievements of U.S. solar developers, subcontractors and installers within the utility, commercial and residential markets, and ranks contractors by kilowatts installed in the previous year. For the second year in a row Green was ranked the top solar developer in Rhode Island according to Solar Power World rankings.
“We are pleased to be recognized in this manner by one of the leading industry publications in the country and that we continue to climb in their rankings,” said Mark DePasquale, CEO and founder of Green Development, LLC. “We are working hard to grow this Rhode Island-based company, and the entire team is proud of the work we are doing to bring renewable projects online to help meet our renewable energy goals and protect the environment. I am particularly proud of our dedicated employees and subcontractors for getting us to this point.”
“The utility-scale solar market, of course, puts up huge installation numbers each year, but the majority of workers in the industry are constructing projects in the commercial and residential markets, which continue to break records,” said Kelly Pickerel, editor-in-chief of Solar Power World. “Over 85% of the companies on the 2022 Top Solar Contractors List primarily work in the residential and commercial sectors, and they all reported closing out the last year in a positive light.”
According to data released by energy research firm Wood Mackenzie — before recent federal decisions to prevent additional tariffs on imported solar panels — the United States is expected to install 11 GW less than originally predicted in 2022, due to continued supply chain constraints, price increases and interconnection challenges. Still, a survey of the 2022 Top Solar Contractors class found that 59% predicted their business would increase in the next year, with only 9% assuming business would decrease.
Green Development employs 90 full-time employees and dozens of seasonal workers. In its capacity as a vertically integrated renewable energy developer, Green installed over 55 MW of solar power in RI in 2021. Additionally, the company worked as an EPC subcontractor on two New York-based solar projects with a combined capacity of nearly 40 MW. Since its founding in 2009, the company has installed more than 135 MW of solar and onshore wind in Rhode Island. To meet its goal of helping to transform the energy mix in New England, Green Development is actively working to expand into projects that support the widespread availability of renewable energy, such as battery storage, solar carports, and other commercial-scale solar projects.
